چکیده

A model is presented for the prediction of the fluid dynamic behaviour of binary suspensions of solid particles fluidized by Newtonian fluids. The equations of motion for the fluid and solid phases are derived by extending the averaged two-fluid equations of change for identical spheres in Newtonian fluids developed by Anderson and Jackson and Jackson. A new closure relationship for the fluid–particle interaction force is employed and a new numerical algorithm is developed to control the solid compaction in each particle phase. The article also presents a comparison between three different equations of closure for the particle–particle drag implemented within the model. Predictions of the fluidization behavior obtained by the proposed model are validated against experimental results in terms of solid mixing and segregation, bed expansion and bubble dynamics. Two-dimensional CFD simulations are performed in a bed of rectangular geometry using ballotini with particle sizes of 200 and 350 lm. 2007 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 53: 1924–1940, 2007

Segregation Behaviour of Particles in Gas Solid Fluidized Beds at Elevated Pressure

A comprehensive mathematical model based on the discrete particle model and computational fluid dynamics was utilized to investigate mixing and segregation of particles in fluidized beds at high pressure. To quantify the extent of mixing in the bed, the Lacey mixing index was used. Simulations were carried out with different mass fractions of small particles at various pressures ranging from 1 ...

CFD simulation for segregation behavior of a ternary mixture in a bubbling fluidized bed: effect of solid wall boundary condition

Abstract The effect of the solid–wall boundary condition on the segregation behavior of a sand ternary mixture differing in size but having the same proportion has been investigated in a gas–solid bubbling fluidized bed. A multi-fluid computational fluid dynamics model incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow has been used. The mass fraction profiles of the different-sized partic...

Segregation patterns of an equidensity TiO2 ternary mixture in a conical fluidized bed: CFD and experimental study

In this study, an Eulerian-Eulerian multi-fluid model (MFM) was used to simulate the segregation pattern of a conical fluidized bed containing ternary mixtures of equidensity TiO2‌ particles. Experimental 'freeze–sieving' method was employed to determine the axial mass fraction profiles of the different-sized particles, and validate the simulation results. The profiles of mass fraction for larg...

Fluidization of Initialty Segregased Equidensity Binary System

Fluidization of initially segregated binary mixtures has been investigated for particle systems of the same material. This paper reports experiments conducted in 0.055m diameter fluidizes bed for binary mixtures composed of sands whose sizes ranged from 450 to 1450mm. An empirical relationship, Utf = 0.95 UF (dR)0.87, was derived in terms of the minimum fluidization of the smaller particle, UF ...

investigation of mercaptan removal from Kerosene using passive mixing tools: Experimental study and CFD modeling

Abstract In this work, the role of appropriate mixing for mercaptan removal from Kerosene using caustic soda has been investigated in the pilot scale. Static mixer at different condition has been used as a passive mixing tool to achieve proper mixing and consequently high performance of mercaptan removal. Two lengths of static mixer including 20 and 40 cm as well as two pitches 1 and 3 m...
